Coffee & bites by the sea: Barba – Giorgis (est.1970)
A very interesting paradox characterized the place for many years: it was a meeting point and a hangout for both old and young crowds. Iced coffees and rise puddings coexisted, side by side, for almost two decades.
This coffee shop has been around for over 60 years.
George Pardos was the emblematic figure who took the business over in the early seventies and worked there until 2002 (in his mid-nineties), something not unusual in the island of Ikaria.
A very interesting paradox characterized the place for many years: it was a meeting point and a hangout for both old and young crowds. Iced coffees and rise puddings coexisted, side by side, for almost two decades. Rice pudding has been the ultimate hit of the coffee shop.
Today it serves unique dishes with an emphasis in the Ikarian diet, as well as handmade cakes and desserts.
Its unique position by the sea, the easy-goingness and hospitality of its people offer an opportunity to experience the type of Ikaria you have read about.
